BRYAN

New York City's fabulous folk-pop duo, with strains of blues and bossa nova, Bryan and Marcy, met at a songwriters' open mic in the East Village in 1997.  First they started dating, then they started performing and writing together, and now they are spirituality married.

Although growing up thousands of miles apart (Bryan in Hawaii and Marcy in Connecticut), their musical roots intertwined in the love and protest songs of their 1960's childhoods.  Bryan and Marcy songs span a variety of subjects -- love of the Earth, love for each other, love of cats, and poverty in the world.

MARCY

A classically trained musician, Marcy first studied piano at the age of 6.   At age 8 she started learning the recorder, and at age 10 was studying the alto saxophone and teaching herself guitar.  Marcy started studying the bassoon at age 13, and by the time she was 17 she was playing in the Norwalk Symphony, the Norwalk Youth Symphony, the Rome Festival Orchestra and the All-Connecticut High School Orchestra (in addition to performing with her high school concert band, marching band, orchestra and choir).

After graduating from Swarthmore College in 1979, Marcy sang with The Music Group in Philadelphia and the Thomas Jefferson University Choir, as well as playing bassoon in some community orchestras.  She also did opera chorus work in two productions by The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia (Mozart’s Idomineo and Verdi’s Un Giorno del Regno).

Marcy began writing poetry at age 6, and songs at age 15.  She performed as a singer, songwriter and guitarist at various venues in Connecticut, Boston and Philadelphia during the 70s and 80s, and in New York from the early 90s until the present.  Marcy met Bryan at a songwriters open mic in New York’s East Village in 1997, and the two have been writing, performing and living together ever since.

A lifelong environmental, peace, and social and economic justice activist, Marcy is licensed to practice law in New York and Pennsylvania (but she doesn’t like to talk about it).  Marcy is also an ordained priest (in a spiritual order, not a religious one), a certified ARCH master (http://www.archhealing.com), a shaman and a professional psychic.  She is also an excellent cook!
